A car show and run in memory of Ronan Wilson is taking place on Sunday, March 29 in Tyrone
A car show and run is being held to mark what would have been the 12th birthday of Ronan Wilson, who was killed in a hit and run collision in Donegal two and a half years ago.
Ronan, from Kildress in County Tyrone, was nine when he was knocked down and killed by a speeding driver at Atlantic Way in Bundoran in September 2023 when he was on a weekend break with his family.
A 24-year-old man from Co Sligo was sentenced to five years in prison last year for dangerous driving causing Ronan’s death.
Ronan’s mother Emma, told Donegal Circuit Court how the loss of the “exceptionally joyful child” has devastated his family.
“The loss of his potential left us devastated; an open wound that will never heal,” she said.
Ronan’s 12th Birthday Car Show and Run is taking place on Sunday, March 29 in Cookstown, Co Tyrone.
The event is raising funds for Road Victims Support Northern Ireland – Donegal and Kildress Health Matters.
Road Victims Support Northern Ireland – Donegal posted that the event “promises to be a truly special day”.
“This event is not only about amazing cars, good company, and raising vital funds for Road Victims Support Northern Ireland – Donegal and Kildress Health Matters.
“It is also a beautiful way to remember Ronan on his birthday and to celebrate the life he lived, the things he loved, and the joy he brought to others.”
The charity highlights “how important it is to remember that our loved ones lived”.
“While they may be gone, their stories, interests, and personalities still matter. Doing something in their memory, especially something they would have enjoyed can be a meaningful and powerful way to honour them.
“Events like this show how love and remembrance can bring people together and create something positive for others.
“If you have ever thought about doing something similar in memory of your own loved one, please get in touch. We are here to help and support you in any way we can.
“We would love to see as many people as possible at Ronan’s Car Show and Run. Please come along, take part, and help make it a day to remember.”
