Donegal and Mayo protesters against Allianz’s continued sponsorship of the GAA’s National Leagues gathered together as one in Letterkenny.

Allianz has been the title sponsor of the GAA’s national leagues since 1993, with the current agreement set to run until 2030.

A June 2025 report by UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese, titled 'From Economy of Occupation to Economy of Genocide,' named insurance company Allianz and other insurers as investing in companies aiding the ongoing conflict, stating these entities may be "embedded in an economy of genocide".

The gathering preceded the Division 1 clash between Donegal and Mayo, which the side managed by Jim McGuinness won 1-19 to 0-14 at O'Donnell Park.

“The fact that our families have to watch this match with the blood going on behind it is a disgrace and a shame to the GAA,” said former Donegal footballer Brendan Devenney, who organised a similar protest at Fr Tierney Park in Ballyshannon when Donegal took on Kerry earlier this month. Mayo also held a protest the same day at Castlebar’s MacHale Park, as they welcomed Dublin.

“This will not stop the protest, which will not stop until Allianz is dropped from the GAA,” Devenney added. “Thank you for joining me today. Thank you for the people of Gaza and in the West Bank.  That’s why you’re standing here today. You’re standing up for the GAA, you’re standing up for the morals and integrity of the people in the GAA.”
