Ollie Horgan was the assistant manager at Galway United FC from 2023 until last July
Galway United FC has introduced a new football kit in honour of the late Ollie Horgan.
A native of Salthill, Ollie, who was 57 when he passed away last August, worked at St Eunan’s College in Letterkenny since 1989 as a maths, science, technical drawing and PE teacher.
Ollie was well known at the school as a player and manager for Fanad United FC, and as the head coach of Finn Harps FC for nine years. Although a proud Galway man, Ollie was never shy to admit he always had a grá for Donegal and its people.
He led the Irish Schoolboys on the international level. Ollie was also the assistant manager at Galway United FC, the team he grew up supporting, from 2023 until last July, when he helped the Connacht side return to the Premier Division of the SSE Airtricity League under manager John Caulfield.

Galway United FC has said that the newly-released 2026 Ollie Horgan third kit “carries genuine emotional weight.”
The tribute features a black-and-purple jersey to represent Ollie’s presence and his deep connection to his club and community.
On the back of the neck, the colours of Salthill, Ollie’s home, can be found and are considered one of the most personal details.
“They pay tribute to Ollie’s homeplace, the coastal community that shaped his character and values.” Galway United said. “ For those who know Galway, Salthill represents Atlantic resilience, close community ties, and quiet pride.”

Ollie’s name is written across the chest of the jersey with the football club saying that “it reflects the unique place he held in Irish football and the simplicity that defined him.”
A Bespoke hemtag was added with the League of Ireland Premier Division club stating that: “Passion, hard work, and integrity were the qualities most often used to describe Ollie. He lived those values daily, not only in how his teams performed, but in how he treated people. They defined his approach and earned him deep respect across Irish football.”
Celtic Sailors' Knots were also included in the design as a symbol of remembrance and a representation of loyalty, strong bonds and safe passage.
What was important to the club was that the shirt carried a meaningful partnership, and the logo of Cancer Care West appears on the back of the jersey.
“The charity aligns the tribute with compassion and community support, which are values that resonate strongly with Ollie’s legacy.” Galway United said. “Its placement ensures that every appearance of the third kit promotes awareness and solidarity.”
