Doochary village memory and family history project

Information night next Wednesday, March 23

Residents and interested parties have been invited to explore the local and family history of the village of Doochary and surrounding areas when they gather next Wednesday, March 23 in Teach Gleann Ceo.

The information night will run between 7pm and 9pm and refreshments, including tea and coffee, will be served.

These will be relaxed sessions where participants will have weekly support to collect, preserve and research their own family history and family memories, including memories of family members who have passed away or those that or ill.

Doochary families will learn how to support the collection of stories of older family members or get support to compile their own family tree.

Participants can dip into and out of sessions. This village project will be compiled into an exhibition and publication celebrating the lives of Doochary seniors and the life of the village in years gone by.

Class participants will also help in the gathering of local stories, folklore, ghost stories, fairies, ways of lives, which will add to their own family stories.

Class participants will be guided through the many ways of researching family history with the support of renowned local historian, Jimmy Duffy, and Commeen resident, Dr Andrea Redmond of Cumann Forbartha - Na Dúchoraidh, Doochary Development Group

For more information message us on Doochary Development on Facebook or contact a committee member or come along to the information evening.
