A woman has been taken to hospital following Letterkenny road traffic collision

A female pedestrian has been taken to hospital following what has been described as a serious road traffic collision in Letterkenny.

The collision occurred in the area of the Station Roundabout on Friday afternoon, April 3.

A spokesperson for An Garda Síochana said: "Shortly after 3pm on Friday, April 3, gardaí and emergency services were alerted to a collision involving a pedestrian and lorry at Station Roundabout, Port Road, Letterkenny.

"The pedestrian, an adult female, has been taken to hospital with serious injuries. 

"The scene is currently preserved and local traffic diversions are in place. 

"Take an alternative route if our journey is necessary.

"If possible, avoid the area please."

Local reports are that there are lengthy delays in the area, with traffic backed up extensively in several directions.
