A man has been charged in connection with a significant drugs seizure at Dublin Airport over the bank holiday weekend.
As a result of risk profiling, Revenue officers seized approximately 7.8 kgs of cocaine when they stopped and searched the baggage of a passenger who had just arrived on a flight from Brazil.
According to Revenue, the drugs, which were seized on Monday, have an estimated street value of €546,000.
"The illicit drugs were discovered when Revenue officers stopped and searched the baggage of a passenger who had disembarked a flight from Brazil via Madrid, and discovered the drugs concealed amongst clothing in the bag," said a spokesperson.
Following the seizure, a man was arrested and detained by members of An Garda Síochána.
The man, who is in his 30s, has since been charged under drug trafficking legislation and he is due to appear before the courts later this Tuesday.
Both gardai and Revenue say investigations are ongoing.
Revenue says the seizure is part of its ongoing operations targeting the importation of illegal drugs into Ireland.
"If businesses or members of the public have any information regarding smuggling, they can contact Revenue in confidence on 1800 295 295," said a spokesperson.
