WARNING: Urgent safety notice issued to Irish parents over popular baby product

The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) has raised alarm at the possible safety issues with the Mambo Air-Free Safety Baby Swim Neck Ring Float sold by Dublin Trends.

The CCPC has warned that the product has not been tested "to relevant safety standards."

In light of the safety concerns, the CCPC has urged parents to stop using the swimming float "immediately" and to keep it away from children.

The CCPC has advised: "When purchasing products for use by babies, always be mindful of safety and check if products meet required safety standards."

Last year, Cork-based paediatrician Dr Niamh Lynch warned parents against the use of such neck floats for babies citing safety concerns.

In a TikTok video, the doctor said that such neck floaties "give parents a false sense of security" which can result in some parents taking their eye off their babies for a "second longer than they should."

She added that there has sadly been some cases of babies drowning or suffering serious neck injuries from these kinds of products.
