'Taken way too soon' - Tributes paid to young Irish father who died unexpectedly in Wales

Tributes have been pouring in following the sudden death of a young Irish father-of-three who passed away unexpectedly in Wales last month.

32-year-old Ian McCormack, originally from Drogheda, Co. Louth, but who had been living in Abercynon, is survived by his adored children, Ellie, Myri, and Ciarán. He is deeply mourned by his parents Brendan and Theresa, his brother Martin, and extended family and friends in both Ireland and Wales.

Described as a "lovely young man" with a kind heart, Ian's death has shocked and saddened all who knew him.

In a message posted on Facebook, Drogheda Brass Band paid tribute to their former trombone player: "We remember him fondly from his time with us, most especially at the European Brass Band Championships in Oostende, Belgium, in 2009. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this sad time. Rest in peace."

Condolences have been shared on RIP.ie, with one mourner writing: "Words cannot express how saddened we are to hear of Ian's sudden passing, taken way too soon. Sincere condolences to Brendan, Theresa, Martin, his beautiful children Ellie, Myri and Ciarán, and extended family in Wales and Drogheda. RIP."

Another tribute said: "I was deeply saddened to hear about your loss. Losing someone so young is incredibly hard, and my thoughts are with you all, especially the children, during this difficult time."

Others remembered Ian for his warmth and generosity: "Ian was a very lovely young man. Thinking of his family at this tragic time."

According to his death notice, Ian will repose at Townley's Funeral Home in Drogheda on Wednesday from 3pm to 7pm. His Funeral Mass will take place at Our Lady of Lourdes Church on Thursday at 11.30am, with burial afterwards in Newtown Cross Lawns Cemetery.

Family flowers only have been requested, with donations, if desired, to the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust, a charity that helps Irish families bring loved ones home after a death abroad.
