More than 150 local farmers and Irish Farmers' Association members gathered in Letterkenny last night (Wednesday) to listen to candidates who hope to become President and Deputy President of the IFA.
Candidates in the race for President are Henry Burns (Laois), Joe Healy (Galway) and Flor McCarthy (Kerry), while Deputy President hopefuls are Pat Farrell (Kildare/West Wicklow), Richard Kennedy (Limerick) and Nigel Renaghan (Monaghan).
Voting is from Tuesday, March 29th and Thursday, April 14th. Last night, at the Clanree Hotel in Letterkenny, candidates presented their views and a Q&A session followed.
The race for the two top posts stems from last year’s salary and pension revelations which saw the IFA in the centre of a media storm.
