The Late Harry Blaney with his wife Margaret, son Niall and Bertie Ahern.
The former Fianna Fáil TD, Niall Blaney is expected to win a Seanad seat when two byelections are held later this month.
The byelections will be held on Friday, April 27th, with the electorate members of the Dáil and Seanad.
There are two vacancies on the Seanad’s Agricultural panel. Former Ulster Farmers’ Union president Ian Marshall is favourite to take one of the seats.
Mr. Blaney said that while he is taking nothing for granted, should he be elected, his return to politics will focus on obtaining more infrastructural investment for Donegal.
Other candidates include Fine Gael councillor Bobby O’Connell, Kerry; Fianna Fáil councillors, Niall Kelleher, Kerry, Frank O’Flynn, Cork and Martin Miley, Kildare; former Fine Gael TD for Kildare North Anthony Lawlor; and Mary Newman, Tipperary, a sister of Fine Gael TD Kate O’Connell.
