Donegal duo Maeve Liston and Sadhbh McGrath have been named in the Combined Provinces XV matchday squad for the opening game of the Celtic Challenge on Sunday.

Ireland go to Cardiff Arms Park to face the Welsh Rugby Union Development XV in the first of four matches with Ballyshannon native Liston of Blackrock College RFC and Ulster named at full-back and McDaid, who is from Burt and plays for Cooke FC and Ulster, is on the replacements.

The Celtic Challenge is a new cross-border competition which will help prepare players for Test rugby and allow the National Coaching Team an extended window of time to work with the country’s best young talent.

Ireland international Hannah O’Connor will captain the Combined Provinces XV for the trip to Wales, with a number of standout performers from the Energia All-Ireland League and Vodafone Women’s Interprovincial Championship handed their opportunity to impress the National Coaching Team ahead of the TikTok Women’s Six Nations, which gets underway in late March.
