Roisin Flanagan lowered the Donegal indoor 3000m record on a night when Mark English flexed some medal muscle.

At the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix, a World Athletics Indoor Tour gold level meet in Boston on Saturday, the Finn Valley AC pair set down significant marks.

English finished third in the men's 800m, crossing the line in 1:46.57, a season's best.

Spain's European gold and World Indoor gold medallist Mariano García won in 1:45.26 with USA Olympic semi-finalist Isaih Jewett second in 1:45.75.

English is building for next month's European Indoor Championships in Istanbul and Saturday's time in Boston was the second fastest indoor 800m of his career.

“I was very happy with that,” English, who opened his season with a 1:47.62 in Sweden, said. “I tried to get out a little bit harder, but I was just very thankful to have the gears in the last 400m.

“I think I can get stronger. I know what I need to do in training now going forward. I'm confident about myself.”

English edged the World Indoor bronze medallist Bryce Hoppel for third with the US athlete fourth in 1:46.58.

A week after taking 13 seconds off her indoor 3000m PB, Flanagan set a new best of 8:53.50.

Great Britain's Laura Muir won in 8:40.34 with Flanagan tenth in the race.

In the Junior Boys' International Mile, Cranford AC man Caolan McFadden finished 10th in 4:25.84.

The race was won by Rocky Hansen of the United States in 4:01.11.

McFadden won national golds on the track, over 800m and 1500m in 2022, before winning the Irish under-16 cross country title on home turf at Rosapenna.
