Caoimhe Gallen and Caolan McFadden returned with silver medals from the SIAB Schools Track and Field International in Scotland on Saturday.
Lifford-Strabane AC’s Gallen and Cranford AC man McFadden took silver in the Irish vest at the meet at Grangemouth.
Gallen bagged silver from the girls’ shot put, throwing out to a best distance of 55.64m.
The gold went to England’s Alice Howie, who reached out to 57.10m.
McFadden crossed the line in the boys’ 800m in 1:55.12,b beaten by Tom Waterworth from England in 1:53.84.
Lifford-Strabane AC’s Ashleigh McArdle continued her good form to land bronze. A new personal best of 13.62m saw McArdle third in the girls shot put. McArdle was edged out by England duo Ellie Rostock and Isabelle Stamp, who threw to 15.03m and 14.82m.
Ethan Dewhirst of Tir Chonaill AC was fourth in both the 400m hurdles and 100m hurdles. Dewhirst finished the 400m hurdles in 55.83 seconds and the 100m hurdles in 13.94 seconds.
Finn Valley AC’s Amy Timoney came sixth in the 80m hurdles in 12.05m while a 5.32m leap saw Riona Doherty of Finn Valley AC finish seventh in the long jump.
In the 3000m, Lifford-Strabane AC woman Elsa Moore was eighth in 10:27.96.
There was a strong Donegal connection to one gold medallist. Savannagh O’Callaghan from Tuam AC won the 3k walk in 15:08.62. Her grandfather is Killybegs athletics stalwart Bernie O’Callaghan, while her father Pierce is the Head of Competition Management at World Athletics.
