Fintan Dewhirst broke his own Donegal record when reaching the 400m hurdles semi-finals at the European Under-20 Championships.
The Tir Chonaill AC athlete finished his heat in 51.49 seconds.
Dewhirst was third in his heat at the Givat Ram Stadium in Jerusalem, earning an automatic qualifying spot.
Nikola Kostić of Serbia won the heat in 51.41 seconds with Binne Brok from Netherlands second in 51.42 seconds.
Last year in Jerusalem, Dewhirst, who is coached by Brian McGonagle, won a European Under-18 silver in Jerusalem.
The Glenties man will go in the 400m hurdles semi-finals on Wednesday.
Finn Valley AC’s Hannah Murray is set to line up as part of the Irish 4x400m relay team, also on Wednesday.
