Linda Kelly and Katie-George Dunlevy take gold in Glasgow.
Katie-George Dunlevy landed her second gold medal at the 2023 UCI and Para-Cycling World Championships on Saturday.
Dunlevy, already with a women’s B time trial gold and women’s tandem bronze in the bag, won the women’s B road race in Glasgow.
Dunlevy - whose father John is a native of Mountcharles - and Linda Kelly overcame a puncture to take gold in fine fashion.
The Irish pair overtook the Poland duo of Ewa Bankowska and Otylia Marczuk heading into the last lap and crossed the line in 1:59.49.
After the 78km race, Bankowska and Marczuk took silver, just 1:44 behind Dunlevy and Kelly with Great Britain duo Sophie Unwin and Jenny Holl nicking in ahead of another Irish pairing, Josephine Healion and Eve McCrystal for bronze.
The victory capped a superb week for Dunlevy, who won the tim trial on Thursday, also with Kelly. Then, they finished in 37:18.22, over a minute ahead of Unwin and Holl.
Dunlevy and Kelly had 61.51 seconds of a winning margin while Sophie Anne Centis and Elise Delzenne of France were third.
The Friday beforehand, Dunlevy and Eve McCrystal were bronze medal winners in the women’s tandem.
At the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics, Dunlevy and McCrystal won gold in the time trial and the road race. They were reunited in Glasgow after missing the 2022 Para-cycling Track World Championships.
In the men’s B time trial, Drumkeen man Mitchell McLaughlin partnered Damien Vereker to finish ninth with Vereker overcoming a week-long illness to get back on the saddle.
In the UCI Cycling World Championships men’s under-23 race, Donegal pair Odhran Doogan and Jamie Meehan finished in 66th and 71st respectively after a 168.4km ride.
