The Rambling House in Laghey might’ve registered on the Richter scale just after 7.10pm on Saturday.
Kelly McGrory played her part as the Ireland 4x400m relay team reached the final at the World Championships in Budapest.
As McGrory stood on the bend ready to take the baton from Roisin Harrison, the Rambling House erupted.
For the duration of the next 52.45 seconds, the place stood still. There was Kelly - their Kelly - gracing the world stage.
Her parents, Greg and Mary - who happen to be the proprietors of the public house in Laghey - were among those in the 36,000 capacity arena in Budapest. They’ll be back again on Sunday evening when the Irish quartet take to the world final.
Becker and Harrison ran the opening two laps before McGrory, the 29cm aluminium baton in hand, sped through the third leg in 52.45. For context, McGrory’s individual 400m PB is 54.21.
A superb final leg by Sharlene Mawdsley secured a spot in Sunday evening’s final.
