Donegal swimmers Anna Hennessy and Eoin Rooney are set for the European Down Syndrome Championships, which take place next week.

Letterkenny woman Anna and Ballyshannon’s Eoin fly to Italy on Sunday.

The Donegal duo are part of a seven-strong Irish squad that will compete in Pavoda, Italy. The competition takes place from September 5-9.

Anna and Eoin have been training under the watch of Sinead Donagher at the Finn Valley Leisure Centre during the summer months.

The pair are both affiliated with Nemo Special Olympics Swim Club and IDSSO. Anna is also a member of Swilly Seals while Eoin is coached by his mum, Sinead.

In Italy, they will represent the Irish Down Syndrome Sporting Organisation with both ready to take to the pool in the 100m freestyle and 50m backstroke events on Tuesday.

Katie Troy, Kevin Kennedy, Eoghan Ashe, Robbie English and David Hogg have also been selected.

Last year, Anna competed at the Down Syndrome World Swimming Championships in Albuferia, Portugal.

There, she attained three personal bests in the 100m freestyle, 50m freestyle and 50m backstroke events while competing against athletes from 23 countries.
