Amy Greene won gold in Carndonagh.
Amy Greene arrived in Carndonagh with the sole intention of bursting from the line at the Donegal Novice Cross Country Championships.
Finn Valley AC athlete Greene led from start to finish, soaring to an excellent individual victory.
The Rosses native was a comfortable winner to lead Finn Valley AC to the team gold.
“I had a good run,” Greene told Donegal Live.
”I went out strong from the start. That was my plan, to get out strong and see what happened after that for the second lap. It means a lot. It was a good race and I’m happy I done it.
“It was good. It was a nice course, good and flat.”
Earlier this year, Greene helped DCU to gold at the Irish Universities Cross Country Championships in Limerick.
In July, she was victorious in the National Junior women’s steeplechase in Tullamore.
Greene was a member of the Finn Valley AC junior team that finished eighth at the European Club Cross Country Championships (ECCC) in Oropesa del Mar in Spain.
In the Carndonagh sunshine on Sunday, Greene and Nuala Bose - who also competed at the ECCC - took Finn Valley to the team honours, with Sinead McDaid and Karen Gallagher also scoring.
Greene said after completing the 3k race: “It’s a shorter race than usual so I kind of knew that it wouldn’t be as hard as the longer runs.
“It wasn’t mucky at all. We had the long spikes in, but we probably didn’t even need them in.
“We had a good team finish there, Nuala was coming pretty strong behind me. It was definitely a nice moment.”
