Caitriona Jennings at the World 50km Championships
Caitriona Jennings finished 12th in the IAU World 50km Championships on Sunday.
In piercing heat and humidity, with temperatures hitting 29 degrees in Hyderabad, India, the Letterkenny AC woman finished in three hours, 29 minutes and 25 seconds.
Jennings was representing Ireland at the Gachibowli Stadium, where Great Britain’s Carla Molinaro won in 3:18:23. Andrea Pomaranski from the USA was second in 3:19:07 with another GB athlete, Sarah Webster, third in 3:20:07.
In 2012, Jennings competed in the women’s marathon at the Olympic Games in London.
Last year, she was named Endurance Athlete of the Year by Athletics Ireland for her third place in finish at the 100km World Championships. There, she set a new world W40 record.
At the 2019 50km World Championships, Jennings finished in 5th place in 3:19:50
The IAU 50km World Championship is a prestigious ultramarathon race organised by the International Association of Ultrarunners (IAU).
