Letterkenny Athletic Club’s Ciaran McGonagle has been named Athletics Ireland’s Ultra Runner of the Year at the 123.ie National Athletics Awards.

In the gruelling Anglo-Celtic Plate race last April, he finished in seventh place in a time of six hours 57 minutes and 32 seconds for 100k.

Burtonport native McGonagle finished third in the M45 category at the Irish and British Masters Cross Country in Glasgow this month, when the team won silver and last month completed the Frankfurt marathon in 2:33:27. The 123.ie National Athletics Awards luncheon took place in the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Santry.
