Inishowen celebrate in Letterkenny
Inishowen RFC 59
Letterkenny RFC 0
In the penultimate game of the season, Inishowen knew the bonus point win away in Letterkenny would be enough to clinch the league title.
On a difficuly day for rugby at Dave Gallaher Park, the visitors got off to a great start against Letterkenny’s development team thanks to tries from Gillespie, Scott, McGonagle, McKenna and Donaghy to leave it 31-0 at the break.
In the second half, Inishowen didn’t take their foot off the gas and Cantwell was next to go over before McGonagle got two more tries to complete his hattrick.
Finally, Fitzpatrick rounded off his first season in the first team with a well-taken try near the end. Scott did well to covert seven of the tries to leave the final score an emphatic 59-0.
It was a long season full of ups and downs from hard-fought wins in places like Rainy to narrow defeats like the semi-final loss in Ballnahinch.
But, as a group, the team is learning all the time and hopefully next year will bring more silverware.
As the club intends to enter a seconds team in the league next September, now is an ideal time to make contact about pre-season training, which starts in August.
