Eamonn Kelly competing in his Ford Fiesta RC2 during Day Two of the FIA World Rally Championship
Donegal’s Eamonn Kelly described his return to Croatia in the Quattro Rivers Rally as one to forget as he was hampered by engine issues from stage 2 onwards and was forced to retire on Saturday.
Taking to his Instagram page, the Frosses man said; “It’s a real pity as we felt we had good speed but did not get a chance to show it, but that’s sport, you create your own luck. We’ll look onwards to Sardinia next month.”
Kelly suffered three setbacks in Croatia with a puncture early on, followed by a coil pack failure and intercom failure.
The race in Croatia gave Kelly the chance of working alongside the Slovenian team IK Sport and getting the best possible practice ahead of the WRC.
Last February Kelly sped to the podium at Rally Sweden, with the rally driver clinching third in the Junior World Rally Championship across over 300km of Scandinavian snow.
