The Rilion Gracie Ireland team at the Irish Open Jiu Jitsu tournament in Meath
It was a highly successful outing at the Irish Open Jiu Jitsu tournament in Meath last weekend with members of Rilion Gracie Ireland taking over 30 individual titles to claim the overall championships title.
The competitors came from the academies in Letterkenny, Donegal Town and Omagh and claimed the national team titles in both the Gi (uniform) and no Gi categories.
Among the total winning medals were four children who were crowned Irish champions in some impressive displays.
In the history of the prestigious competition, this is one of the few times the overall national title has been awarded to a team outside Dublin and is its first time in the northwest.
The competitors train under head coach Brian ‘Barney’ Coyle in Letterkenny, Bryan Gorman in Donegal Town and William Timoney in Omagh.
Ramelton’s Coyle said he was delighted with the results and congratulated all those who took part.
“This was a great weekend for the clubs in our association and I want to say very well done to everyone,” he stated.
He also thanked everyone who helped with the preparations beforehand and over the weekend of the event in Gormanston Park, Meath.
This event is a major showcase of Irish Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and the event attracted over 1,300 athletes from over 30 academies.
