Here are Donegal's previous Olympians

There will be a sizeable Donegal interest in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris and the county has a proud history of people from Donegal or people who were attached to its sports clubs competing at the Olympics

Caitriona Jennings (Athletics; 2012)

In the lead up to the 2012 Olympics in London, Letterkenny woman Jennings suffered a Plantar Fasciitis and a stress fracture on a foot. The agony hit during the women's marathon in London and she heroically finished, crossing the finish line in three hours, 22 minutes and 11 seconds.

The crowds on London’s streets stayed on, long after the leading runners had passed, willing Jennings to finish.

Forced to defend her decision to compete, she described the experience as ‘devastating’, but had been given the go-ahead by her physios to take part.
