In Pictures: Introducing the 1984 Donegal Sports Star Award winners 40 years on

The Donegal Sports Star Committee caught up with the winners of 40 years ago on Monday night in Letterkenny. These are the stories of the 1984 winners

Frank Rodgers - School Teacher

Rodgers was renowned for his interest in promoting sports in the school and put a huge amount of time into encouraging students to take part in a variety of sports.

During his time in Scoil Mhuire, he took senior soccer teams to an All-Ireland Senior College final in 1991, and a semi-final in 1989. The school also had great success in athletics, soccer, Gaelic football, and basketball under his leadership

From Glenties, where he was better known as Francie Rodgers, he played Gaelic football for Donegal on two occasions in the 1973-1974 season.  

Later in 1974 Rodgers went to college in England and helped set up the Corby O’Rahilly’s GAA Club in Warwickshire.
