In Pictures: Introducing the 1984 Donegal Sports Star Award winners 40 years on

The Donegal Sports Star Committee caught up with the winners of 40 years ago on Monday night in Letterkenny. These are the stories of the 1984 winners

Anthony McGinley - Hall of Fame

The award was accepted on the night by McGinley's niece Dorothy.

Anthony McGinley was born in Annagry in 1924 and in 1939, when only 15, he competed in his first cycle race at Falcarragh and won second prize.

His first victory was at Mullaghderg Banks in 1940 when he was only 16 years of age. In that year, he won 12 races out of 15 in which he competed at different venues within the county.

In 1941 he had a similar record - 12 firsts in 15 races and in 1942, he competed in 31 cycling events ranging in distance from one to three miles and had 29 victories and was second on the other two occasions.
