Kelly McGrory competes at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris
Kelly McGrory has again been confirmed as part of the National Relay Programme for 2025.
The Laghey woman and Tir Chonaill AC athlete ran at the Olympic Games in Paris, where the women’s 4x400m relay team fell agonisingly short of a medal.
McGrory is back in the fold again for this year with the various relay squads and coaches confirmed by Athletics Ireland.
In Paris, McGrory ran in the semi-final alongside Sophie Becker, Phil Healy and Sharlene Mawdsley as they booked a place in the final when going 3:25.05.
McGrory was replaced by Rhasidat Adeleke for the final with the Irish quartet setting a national record, 3:19.90, to finish fourth at the Stade de France.
Adeleke, Becker, Lauren Cadden, Roisin Harrison, Healy, Cliodhna Manning, Mawdsley, Rachel McCann and McGrory are in the squad.
Finn Valley AC athlete Arlene Crossan - who set some impressive 400m times last year - is among four on a training squad.
Last weekend, Crossan set a new Donegal indoor 400m record in Glasgow. Lauren McCourt, Kate O’Connell and Nicole Walsh are also part of the training squad.
Finn Valley AC’s 800m specialist Mark English, a four-time European medalist and a three-time Olympian, is included among the list for the men’s 4x400m relay.
European U18 400m hurdles silver medal winner Fintan Dewhirst is on the U23 men’s 4x400m group. Tir Chonaill AC’s Dewhirst won his European medal in Jerusalem in 2022 and his brother Ethan - who competed at last year’s European U18s - is on the U20 4x400m group.
Dermot McGranaghan of Finn Valley AC is the team coach for the U20 4x400m.
The Castlefin man has led the U20 4x400m squad over the last four years, with three teams reaching European Championship finals and competing at the World U20 Championships in 2024.
Meanwhile, Amy Greene - the National U23 silver medalist in 2024 who competed at the European Cross Country Championships in Turkey in December - will run this weekend in Leeds.
Greene, of Finn Valley AC, will go in the U23 race at the Home Countries International & Celtic Nations Cross Country, held at Temple Newsam on Saturday.
