Donegal-based jockey Patrick McGettigan is heading to Pisa, Italy, this week to participate in the prestigious Ribot Cup.

At just 16 years old, the Ballyare teenager will be the youngest competitor in the event, which takes place at the renowned San Rossore racecourse.

The Ribot Cup, scheduled for Sunday, features three races, with the horse pairings being drawn at random. The overall winner is determined through a points system.

McGettigan, who has already secured four victories in his young career under the guidance of trainer JP Murtagh, is one of several talented jockeys chosen from across Europe for this event.

This will mark his second international competition, having previously raced in Great Britain.
