Over 300 participants toed the line for the Black & Amber 4 Aidan in Letterkenny on Sunday morning.

The newly-appointed Minister of State for Sport, Charlie McConalogue, was among the 323 who took part in the event to honour Letterkenny native Aidan McGlynn.

In September 2024, Aidan, who was a member of both Letterkenny Athletic Club and St Eunan’s GAA Club, passed away aged 50.

The clubs united for Sunday’s four mile road race, which was won by Kyle Doherty. The City of Derry Spartans athlete won in 20 minutes and 18 seconds.

Finn Valley AC’s Mark McGinley was second in 21:31, ahead of Letterkenny AC’s Philip McHugh (21:47).

Kay Byrne of Finn Valley AC was the first woman home, the Ballybofey woman crossing the line in 27:29,

The event was held in association with Sister Sara's Bar and Restuarant.

Late of Ardnawark, Barnesmore, Donegal Town, and formerly Rockhill, Aidan was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease in 2023, and passed away in September.

Letterkenny AC members completed the 2024 Dublin Marathon in his memory in October and raised €8,447 for the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association (IMNDA) in the process.
