Oisín Ó Gailín takes out 20-year-old Donegal record in California

Oisín Ó Gailín took out the Donegal 5000m record on Friday night in California.

The Ballybofey man clocked 13:41.69 while running at the Stanford Invitational.

At the Cobb Track & Angell Field in Stanford, Ó Gailín’s run eclipsed Gary Murray’s long-standing county best in the event.

At a BMC Meet in Solihull in June 2005, Murray, who hails from Stranorlar, went 13:44.62.

Back in December, Ó Gailín, who is based in Wyoming, set a new Donegal indoor 3000m record of 7:52.14.

Also at the Stanford Invitational, Finn Valley AC’s Eimear McCarroll - now a scholarship student at Bradley University - set a new 1500m PB of 4:24.16.
