Mona McSharry broke the Irish short course 200m breaststroke record to win bronze at the World Aquatics Swimming World Cup.

The third and final stop of the World Cup series is being held in Toronto, Canada - and McSharry continued her excellent form.

McSharry finished the 200m breaststroke final in 2:18.27.

The gold was bagged by Kate Douglass from the USA in 2:13.45 while USA’s Alex Walsh took silver in 2:17.88.

Marlins Swimming Club ace McSharry nipped ahead of Rebecca Meder from South Africa to claim third.

McSharry was in second until around the 125m mark, but Walsh made her move into second.

Last week in Westmont, Illinois McSharry set a new Irish record of 2:19.29 to place fourth in the 200m breaststroke.

Also in Westmont, McSharry won gold in the 50m and silver in the 100m breaststroke events.

At the first stop of the World Cup series in Carmel, Indiana, McSharry was fourth in both the 50m and 100m breaststroke events while she finished sixth in the 200m.

Earlier this year, Grange native McSharry exited the 100m breaststroke at the World Aquatics Championships at the semi-final phase and had to skip the 200m due to a stomach bug.
