Raphoe Badminton Club’s Corey Chambers has shown good promise in the opening days of the European U17 Championships.
Chambers tasted a couple of wins in a tough opening for the Irish team in the group phase of the Championships in Lanzarote.
Chambers and Amira Pender won a mixed doubles match on day one against England. Chambers and Pender won 21-16 21-16 against George Clare and Mia Fox.
However, England won the day 4-1.
Chambers teamed up with Conor Blakeman for a doubles clash against Peter Bnza and Matyaa Puffr from Czechia. Chambers and Blakeman won the first game 21-14 but were eventually beaten after the Czechia duo won the next two 21-8 21-11 with Czechia winning 3-2.
Chambers defeated Luxembourg’s Shourya Kodapala 21-12 21-19 in a singles game on day three.
Ireland had the better of Luxembourg 5-0 in what was their final group outing.

Also included on the Irish team are Aisling Ryan, Rasa Norvaisaite, Hannah Shochan, Amira Pender, Carol Joy, Jeffrey Rong and Luke Marks with the team accompanied by coaches Aisling Ryan and Craig McCourtney.
Players now move onto the individual competitions.
