Stephen Harron made it a hat trick of Con Sean titles and this fourth in total following a 6-2 win over John Meencha in a repeat of the 2024 final.
And as always when it comes to the final he is hard to stop and he has also won the Paddy Byrne three times in a row its some achievement as both these tournaments are hard won, he also hit a 160 check out the highest of the day also in the final (Keith Murrays 148 in the first round was the best up until that).
He is now one away from equaling John Flood's four in a row (2014-17). His quarter final against Dermot McGuire was his biggest test on route where he got through 4-3.
Meenchia had a far tougher route to the final, for example he overcame Alain Laird 4-3 in the semis, he defeated John Con in the quarters and Des McGettigan in the board final but just did not get going at all in the final.
Christopher McBrearty and Alan Laird were the losing semi-finalists, Christopher his two 180s in his quarter final against Galway’s Liam Gallagher in the final leg.
The best youth was Eoghain Hegarty where he won two and lost a decider to Christy Gallen, other youths who did well were Corey O’Donnell and Keith Carr while Jackson Timoney hit a 13 dart leg in his match against LJ McShane.
We had a record entry of 91 players with a great youth turnout of 28 and the February bank holiday Sunday is proving to be the ideal date for this competition as we had over 80 at last years event.
Without help and cooperation this would not run smoothly and this year’s event ran without too many delays thanks to players being in the venues on time and also a big thanks to Michael Curran for looking after the matches in the Sliabh Liag and for his help on the day, thanks to all who marked games, John Riva for call the final again this year not a bad feat for a man celebrating his 50th birthday.
Thanks to Francis McShane for sponsoring the trophies, to Evelyn’s and The Sliabh Liag for hosting this event and to the staff on what was a very busy day.
Thanks to our sponsors Heineken Ireland, LMC Fire Safety, Sliabh Liag Boat Trips, Carrick Meats, John Kelly Painting and Decorating, Secure Storage Letterkenny and to anyone else who helped make this the most successful Con Sean ever.
