Mona McSharry
Mona McSharry opened up her competitive with two medals in the United States at the weekend.
At the 2026 Tyr Pro Swim Series in Westmont, Illinois, McSharry won 50m breaststroke gold and 100m breaststroke silver.
McSharry touched the wall in 30.88 seconds for gold in the 50m breaststroke final, sharing top spot with Skyler Smith, who also finished in 30.88.
The Marlins Swimming Club, Ballyshannon woman clocked 31.17 in her 50m qualifier.
In the 100m breaststroke final, Olympic bronze medallist McSharry finished in 1:06.59, edged out for gold by American ace Kate Douglass.
Douglass, a multiple Olympic and World Championship medallist, won gold in 1:06.42.
McSharry came through her semi-final in 1:07.04 having gone 1:07.01 in the heats.

At last year’s World Aquatics Swimming Championships World Cup, McSharry won five medals across three weekends and set five Irish records in the same period.
