Roisin Flanagan set a new Ulster indoor 5,000m overnight in Boston.

The Finn Valley AC woman was competing at the Boston University David Hemery Valentine Invitational.

Flanagan ran an excellent 15:36.05 to finish seventh in her race.

The time eclipses the previous Ulster best of 15:41.00, held by another Finn Valley AC woman, Sarah Collins, since a 2013 meet in Boston.

Flanagan’s time sees her slot in at fourth in the all-time Irish list.

Flanagan’s race was won by Gabriela Debues-Stafford, whose 14:31.38 was a new North American record.

The Gortin woman went to Boston in good form having won a 1 Mile Run at the New Mexico Team Open in Albuquerque in a time of 4:40.59.

Her twin sister, Eilish, was also in action in Boston, finishing second in a separate 5,000m race in 15:45.69.
