Noreen Bonner wins silver, leads Ireland to team gold in Braga

Finn Valley AC woman takes silver in cross country while Kay Byrne just misses a medal

Finn Valley AC’s Noreen Bonner won an individual silver medal, leading Ireland to team gold, on Sunday morning at the European Masters Athletics Championships.

In the 8km cross country, Bonner took silver in the W65 category, finishing in 31:15.

The winner, Marcelina Hernaiz Del Campo from Spain, came home in 31:01.

Bonner guided Ireland home as the winning team.

The long-time club secretary of Finn Valley AC, Bonner goes in the 1500m on the track in Braga next Saturday.

Finn Valley AC’s Kay Byrne was inches from an individual medal in the W55 category. Byrne finished in fourth, just seven seconds off Parashiva Boras from Romania, the bronze medalist.

Byrne has the 300m to come on Thursday.

Mark Connolly, another Finn Valley AC stalwart, was 18h in the M60 category. The Aghyaran man is also set to compete in the 1500m on Saturday.

Finn Valley AC’s Ciara Kearns is the next of the Donegal contingent in action in Braga, competing in the long jump on Monday evening.
