Brendan Boyce was 26th over 35k at the World Race Walking Championships in the early hours of Friday.
In Muscat, Oman, the Finn Valley AC man finished in 2:44:25, a season’s best in the distance.
Boyce’s favoured 50k distance has been dropped by the IOC and the Milford native goes now over 35k.
Sweden’s Perseus Karlstrom, a training partner of Boyce under the tutelage of former world gold medalist Rob Heffernan, won the 35k event.
Karlstom won in 2:356:14, staving off the attention from Spaniard Alvaro Martin, who came home in 2:36:54.
In the rising Muscat temperatures, Muguel Angel Lopez, also from Spain, was third in 2:37:27.
On his debut over the distance in December, Boyce finished second at the National Senior 35k, crossing the line in 2:32:49 - a time that secured his qualification for the World Championships.
Boyce finished tenth in the 50k race walk at the Olympic Games in August, in a time of 3:53:40 and was sixth at the 2019 World Championships in Doha.
