Two Donegal athletes have been named on the Irish team for the IAU European 24-Hour Championships.

Lifford-Strabane AC’s Ed McGroarty, the 24hr national record holder, will captain a team that also includes Finn Valley AC’s Eddie Gallen.

Last weekend, McGroarty retained his Irish title with 255.8 km in Belfast, where Gallen finished fifth in 224.7km.

The IAU European 24-Hour Championships take place Verona, Italy on September 17-18.

McGroarty’s Irish best is 256.570km.

The Irish teams are confident of improving on their rankings from the 2018 European Championships held in Timisoara, Romania where the women’s  team finished 13th and the men’s team finished eighth.
