National Youth 51kg champion Jack Harkin.

Letterkenny boxer Jack Harkin was crowned the National Youth 51kgs champion on Sunday.

Harkin, who represented the Derry-based Oakleaf Boxing Club, came out on top in impressive fashion at the National Stadium.

Harkin claimed a unanimous decision win over Ashton Ruth of Avona in the 51kgs final.

A superb display of ring craft from Harkin saw him emerge a deserved victor.

On Saturday, Harkin took a 4-1 split decision win over Adam McKenna from Holy Family in the semi-final.

The previous week, Harkin defeated Olympic BC’s Carson Hanlon on a unanimous decision.

Last month, Harkin won gold at the William Wallace Box Cup in Scotland. Wins over James Jones (Jonesys) and Steven Colber (North Glasgow) earned the win in the 54kgs category.

There was no joy at the weekend for Raphoe Boxing Club’s Tiernan Conwell, who lost via UD to Cole Byrne of Rathnew in a 67kgs quarter-final.
