Frosses rally driver Eamonn Kelly
Frosses rally driver Eamonn Kelly moved a step closer to landing the Junior British Rally Championship title at the weekend.
Kelly took victory at the Grampian Forest Rally in Scotland in a Ford Fiesta Rally 4.
Kelly and his co-driver, Monaghan’s Conor Mohan, had almost four minuets to spare on Johnnie Mulholland and Eoin Treacy.
The Donegal driver was having a titanic battle with Kyle White, just one second separating the crews heading for the last two stages.
Kelly went for harder compound Tyers at the final service and on SS5, Strathgyle, they were six seconds faster.
Disaster struck for White when a puncture and a broken brake pipe led to his retirement having dropped 48 seconds.
Over the final 14km stage, Hurlie Bog, Kelly stayed cautious and was able to claim a win that keeps him well in command of the overall Junior British Rally standings with three rounds to go.
Kelly leads the way with 91 points accumulated. White remains his nearest rival on 58 points.
Round five, the Get Connected Rali Ceredigion, takes place in Wales on September 3-4.
