Adrienne Gallen and Fintan Dewhirst were in record-breaking form on Wednesday evening in Wales.
Lifford-Strabane AC’s Gallen set a new Donegal hammer record with Dewhirst clocking a new stadium record at the Swansea Bay Sports Park.
Competing at the Welsh Athletics Under-20 International, Gallen took silver in the hammer event.
Throwing a best of 53.55m, Gallen broke her own Donegal record of 51.23m from 2021
Gallen’s throw was beaten only by a 53.85m effort by England’s Jessica Charlie Bennett.
Dewhirst, Tir Chonaill AC’s European Under-18 silver medalist, won the 400m hurdles.
His winning time, 53.46 seconds, goes down as a new stadium record.
Dewhirst saw off Luke Dronfield of England, who finished in 54.36 seconds.
Cranford AC’s Oisin Kelly was sixth in the 800m, crossing the line in 1:56.34 while Joseph Gillespie of Finn Valley AC didn’t clear the bar in the high jump. Gillespie had been set to compete in the triple jump, but the event was removed from the schedule.
