Tir Chonaill AC’s Geraldine Stewart has been appointed as Athletics Ireland’s new Director of Competition.
The Donegal Town native has been working in the competition department of Athletics Ireland since April, 2022.
At the recent National Masters Championships in Tullamore, she won the W40 shot put thanks to a 11.65m throw.
A multiple national champion, she previously worked in health, fitness and adult education and has represented Ireland in international events.
At Tir Chonaill AC, she has coached athletes at senior and underage levels. Her new role will begin on September 1.
“I am delighted to be taking on the role of Director of Competition with Athletics Ireland and I look forward to working with everyone involved in ensuring our National Competitions are delivered to the highest standard,” Stewart said.
“Our recent success in international competition shows the importance of building a strong competitive environment from Juvenile to Senior level.”
Hamish Adams, the Athletics Ireland CEO, said: “Ger brings a strong skillset and significant experience to this very important role within our organisation.
“Competition is a strategic pillar of our sport, and we aspire to consistently improve the standards and structure of our programmes. I have no doubt Ger will provide great leadership in this space.”
