Caitriona Jennings was the second woman to finish at the JFK 50 Mile on Saturday.

The Letterkenny woman finished second in 6:28:53 – a masters record in America’s oldest ultramarathon.

Last month, Jennings won gold at the European 50k Championships and was third at the 100k World Championships in August.

On Saturday, 966 runners were under the 13-hour limit.

Jennings was beaten to hold by Sarah Biehl, the Ohio woman doing 6;05:42 for a new course record, breaking Ellie Greenwood's 2012 mark of 6:12:00,

“It’s a lovely course. I was hoping I’d enjoy it more,” Jennings said.

“For some reason, I just couldn’t settle. It was a harder race than I expected. I’ve had two tough races, but I’m not making excuses.

“I was beaten fair and square. Maybe I expected too much of myself today. But you win some, you lose some. That’s what sport is. It just makes the good days all the better.”
