A superb run from Finn Valley AC's Sean McGinley saw him finish 12th and help Ireland to Under-20 silvers in Turin

Finn Valley AC's Sean McGinley helped Ireland to a superb team silver medal in the under-20 men's race at the SPAR European Cross Country Championships in Italy.

McGinley finished an excellent 12th at Mandria Park in Turin.

It was a significant performance from multiple Irish gold medallist McGinley, who finished in 18 minutes and 14 seconds.

McGinley had finished sixth in the national junior men's race at Rosapenna recently when he was inhibited by a sickness.

Nick Griggs won silver with Dean Casey taking bronze with Britain's Will Barnicoat winning gold and leading his team to the golds,

The DCU student had targeted a top ten placing in Italy and was only four seconds off.

This was a fine display of credentials by the John Rogan-coached McGinley on the continental stage.

Recently, McGinley helped Dublin City University to silver at the IUAA Road Relay Championships and was an impressive winner of the junior men’s race at the the Autumn Open International Cross Country Festival.
