Donegal and Galway tangle with FAI Youth Interleague final spot up for grabs

The Donegal Youth League side that are aiming to defeat Galway at the weekend.

Donegal Youth League are aiming to fire themselves into the national decider when they take on Galway at Eamonn Deacy Park on Sunday (kick-off, 2pm).

Eamon McConigley’s young guns - who defeated their Inishowen counterparts 3-1 during the group stages - qualified for the semi-finals of the competition as best runners up.

Donegal had suffered what a heartbreaking 3-2 defeat to Mayo in their final outing there - a winner that cruelly arrived nine minutes into stoppage time when a draw would have seen them top spot in their section.

However, in the end, results elsewhere meant they still progressed to the last four.

It’s been 20 years since a Donegal side last won the competition and if they are to progress on to the final, they’re going to have to overcome an undefeated Galway who are favourites to go all the way.

But if the young Donegal lads can upset the odds, they would secure home advantage for the decider - against either Mayo or Cork.

To date, Donegal have had some stellar performances from the likes of Ethan McCafferty, Keadue Rovers; Luke Parke, Letterkenny Rovers; Barrie McGee, Balybofey United and Robbie Murphy of Donegal Town.

As well as McConigely on the line, the side also have the likes of Garry Gibson, Eddie McGrath and Kieran McGrath in their backroom.
