Pobailscoil Ghaoth Dobhair edged out fellow Donegal girls Rosses Community School 2-1 to take the FAI Schools Junior B Girls Ulster Cup title.

Maryanne Nic a Bhaird and Maria Ní Ghallchóir were the players coming up with the goods on the day for the winners while Claire Diver was on the mark for Rosses CS.

The contest took place at the Letterkenny Community Centre astro facility. Played in great spirit, Pobailscoil Ghaoth Dobhair took the lead through the impressive Nic a Bhaird who nipped in between the Rosses CS 'keeper and defence to open the scoring on 14 minutes.

The leaders then dictated the play for the remainder of the half but were dealt a blow in the last minute when Diver equalised direct from a superbly struck freekick from distance.

The second-half was another keenly contested affair with most of the play centred around the middle third. Nic a Bhaird then took possession of the ball and after beating two defenders, played a perfect through ball to Ní Ghallchoir who beat the offside trap to finish well.

Try as Rosses CS might, they just couldn't find an equaliser and it was Pobailscoil Ghaoth Dobhair that held on for the victory.  Claire Diver, Ellie McGarvey and Ellie Ward were best for the runners up while Eva Ní Dhuibhir, Neasa Ní Phaidin and the outstanding Nic a Bhaird, who was named Player of the Match, shone brightest for the winners.

Pobailscoil Ghaoth Dobhair now progress onto the All-Ireland semi-finals with the Leinster winners (still to be decided) providing the opposition. That fixture has provisionally be penciled in for Thursday, February 9.
