Luke O’Donnell starts as Ireland U16s draw with Switzerland

The Republic of Ireland Under-16 team.

Luke O’Donnell started on Friday afternoon as the Republic of Ireland Under-16s drew with Switzerland in Spain.

The Buncrana youngster played 69 minutes of the 1-1 draw at the Oliva Nova Sports Center.

O’Donnell, who plays for Derry City, was a substitute in Wednesday’s 2-2 stalemate with the Swiss.

The former Cockhill Celtic midfielder was in from the start on Friday for the second of two international friendlies.

Daniel Mare - who was making his first start - gave Ireland a first-half lead before Dion Cakolli netted a late equaliser.
