Seamus Coleman was stretchered from the field in Everton's Premier League encounter against Leicester City at the King Power Stadium, which ended in a 2-2 draw.

The Killybegs native went down under an awkward challenge from Leicester's  Boubakary Soumaré in the 45th minute. Having been assessed by medics for a lower leg injury, the 34-year-old was taken from the field on a stretcher, motioning to the crowd and his teammates to lift it as he did. Coleman received a standing ovation and well-wishes from players from both teams.

"As Coleman is being carried off, he tries to whip the travelling support into a frenzy," The Guardian reported. "Captain, leader, legend."

The Republic of Ireland captain was replaced by Nathan Patterson. Watch Coleman rally the troops below:

Everton opened the scoring through a penalty from Dominic Calvert-Lewin on 15 minutes but Leicester went in 2-1 up at half-time, with Caglar Soyuncu and Jamie Vardy scoring. Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford saved a penalty from James Maddison in first half injury time. Alex Iwobi made it 2-2 in the 54th minute and the draw means Everton remain second from bottom, while Leicester jump above Leeds United and Nottingham Forest into 16th place.
