Gemma McGuinness was the hero of the hour as Galway United booked a place in the first ever Avenir Sports All-Island Cup final.

The Greencastle woman netted the winning penalty at Fecrycarrig Park on Saturday, giving the Tribeswoman victory over Wexford Youths.

McGuinness’s goal handed Galway a 4-3 shootout win after a 1-1 draw.

After a scoreless first half, Rianna Jarrett riffled home to give Wexford the lead, but Kate Thompson drew Galway level.

In the shootout, McGuinness stepped up to net the winner.

In January, McGuinness signed for Galway having played for Sligo Rovers in 2022.
