A native of Belcarra, Co Mayo, Luke McNicholas has joined League Two Wrexham on loan from Sligo Rovers and the Welsh club have an option to buy come January

Former Finn Harps goalkeeper Luke McNicholas has joined League Two Wrexham.

A native of Belcarra, Co Mayo, the 23-year-old joined Harps on loan in 2021. He joins Wrexham on a short-term contract from Sligo Rovers until January to bolster Wrexham’s goalkeeping options. Wrexham have the option to sign the player permanently then. Former England international Ben Foster is their current first choice, having helped the club to the National League title last season. Last week, they signed Republic of Ireland winger James McClean. 

McNicholas, who has represented Ireland at U-18 level, and has also spent time away on loan with Cliftonville. This season, he has played 26 matches for Sligo. 

“I’m absolutely buzzing to be here and can’t wait to get started,” he told Wrexham’s official website. “The experience in the goalkeeping department at Wrexham is second to none.”
